PPSL Welcomes New Senior Director of Policy & Advocacy

Ashley Harrington previously worked as Senior Advisor to the Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Education

BOSTON – The Project on Predatory Student Lending (PPSL), the leading nonprofit legal organization representing borrowers defrauded by predatory colleges, announced that Ashley Harrington has joined the team as PPSL’s Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy. In this new role, Harrington will oversee PPSL’s policy and advocacy work, which focuses on ending predatory practices in higher education.

Harrington previously worked as Senior Advisor to the Chief Operating Officer at the Department of Education’s Office of Federal Student Aid and as federal advocacy director and senior policy counsel at the Center for Responsible Lending (CRL), where she led policy efforts to address systemic issues that perpetuate racial and economic inequality.

Through strategic litigation and advocacy, PPSL has won landmark cases to protect borrower rights, recover money owed, and cancel fraudulent debt, with more than one million clients and $16 billion dollars in cancelled student loan debt.

“Advocacy works hand in hand with our litigation strategy to end predatory practices in higher education, and Ashley’s leadership in this new role will be a huge asset to our clients and team,” said Eileen Connor, President and Director of PPSL. “Our clients are a force of change and they are incredible advocates for solutions to protect future generations of students. With Ashley on board, we look forward to working together to take our policy and advocacy efforts to the next level.”

“I’m thrilled to work with PPSL’s fearless attorneys and clients who are taking on the biggest policy issues in higher education and student lending and getting results,” said Ashley Harrington, Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy at PPSL. “For decades, higher education policies have enabled and encouraged predatory practices across the industry, and I look forward to working with this team to advance solutions that protect borrowers and deliver on the college promise.”

Harrington is a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and New York University School of Law, and is admitted to practice law in New York. As Senior Director of Policy and Advocacy, Harrington will oversee PPSL’s policy priorities and identify additional advocacy opportunities for PPSL and its client community.
