PPSL Launches New Community Action Council for Borrower Advocates

People who have impacted by predatory practices in higher education are encouraged to apply for a unique opportunity to help drive change and protect borrowers’ rights

BOSTON (Nov. 22, 2024) – The Project on Predatory Student Lending, the leading legal voice for borrowers defrauded by predatory colleges, today announced that it is forming a new Community Action Council (CAC) to help lift up borrower voices that will drive change and protect borrowers’ rights.

Individuals who have been impacted by predatory student debt and are interested in more formalized advocacy opportunities are invited to apply before December 20, 2024 at ppsl.org/communityactioncouncil

“Our client community has been some of the most effective, engaged, and knowledgeable advocates on predatory student lending, and we’re excited to offer the Community Action Council as a formalized way to harness and develop those skills,” said Ashley Harrington, PPSL senior director of policy and advocacy. “There’s no better or more important time than right now to collaborate and organize around the need for a more equitable and just higher education system.”

Eight individuals will be selected for the inaugural cohort, and the Advisory Council will run from February 2025 to November 2025. PPSL will provide Council Members with a  stipend and support to engage in these activities and other strategic advisory efforts and cover travel expenses. As a Council Member, individuals will fulfill a community advocate role, representing borrower voices in advocacy efforts.

PPSL’s client community includes more than one million borrowers across the country. PPSL’s unique model of litigation and advocacy has helped influence the public conversation about predatory student debt and achieved the cancellation of over $22 billion in fraudulent student loans.
